Indie Rock..

This music genre started out in the United Kingdom and the United States in the 80s, but it started to grow really fast and to become more popular in the 2000s, with the growing of the internet and alternative ways of expression and diffusion of music all around the world, when it started to be easy to publish your recordings and to get to be known.

Particularly, the most popular bands since this genre started to become popular are anglophone, it hasn't developed that much in other languages like spanish.

Some of the most popular indie rock exponents nowadays are bands like Placebo, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand and Block Party.

We will talk a little bit about the 2 first ones, starting with Placebo.

This is a british band formed back in 1994, in London, England. They managed to have a lot of success since the beginning of their careers as their first albums sold more than a million copies in the United Kingdom and more than 8 million all around the world.

Here is one of their must popular music videos:

The next band is Arctic Monkeys.

This band from Sheffield, also from England, was formed in 2002. They were one of the first bands that became famous, in great measure, thanks to the development of internet, but they didn't release their first album, called "Whatever people say I am, that's what I'm not", until 2006. This album became popular since its release, as it became the fastest selling debut album in the United Kingdom chart history, selling more than 350,000 copies in the first week.

Here is one of the most famous music video of this band.

As we can see, this music genre was developed largely thanks to the technology and free expression of our time, but it doesn't mean that it is not worthy considered as good music. In my opinion, is one of the most creative genres, talking about the lyrics, music videos and sounds used by their representatives, and it is worthy to take a listen to.

  1. Nice pick, Sergio. I love Placebo! My only suggestion is, stop using, so many, commas, because they are not necessary, I think you should use more periods, to separate ideas!

Very fluent, great examples, you facilitated extra information, everything was good :)
